Security Media Cell: Maysan blast caused by sound device, not targeted attack

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Security Media Cell on Saturday denied reports that an explosion near the office of Maysan Provincial Council head Mustafa Al-Muhammadawi was a targeted attack, saying it was caused by a sound device placed on a public road.

The cell, which operates under the Joint Operations Command and reports to the Office of the Prime Minister, said the blast damaged a vehicle parked about 25 meters from the office but caused no injuries.

“The incident was the result of a sound device explosion placed on one of the public roads, causing minor damage to a vehicle without any human casualties,” the statement said, citing explosives and forensic teams.

It stressed the incident “has no connection with the office of the head of the provincial council” and urged media outlets to rely on official sources. Investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible.
