Drone strike targets Khabat base in Erbil as attacks on opposition sites continue

ERBIL — A large explosion was heard Thursday evening at a base belonging to the Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Struggle in the Rizgari subdistrict of Erbil, according to local reports.

Witnesses said a loud blast was followed by flames rising from the site.

Civil defense teams, emergency responders and health ambulances arrived at the scene shortly after the attack.

According to information obtained by 964media, the base was struck by a drone.

The Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Struggle, known as Khabat in Kurdish, is one of the six Iranian Kurdish parties which recently formed the Alliance of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan. The alliance was formed in anticipation for potential changes in Iran.

The strike is the latest in a series of attacks on Iranian Kurdish opposition bases across the Kurdistan Region.  Earlier this evening, loud explosions were heard in Koya, Erbil, targeting Azadi Camp.
