Iraqi court sentences counterfeiter to six years in prison

BAGHDAD, October 30 — The Karkh Criminal Court issued a six-year prison sentence on Monday for a convicted counterfeiter who printed 7,131 fake 25,000 Iraqi dinar banknotes in Turkey and smuggled them into Iraq.

The judiciary’s press office announced in a statement:

The Karkh Criminal Court sentences a counterfeit currency trafficker to six years in prison.

The convicted individual was apprehended with a counterfeit amount of Iraqi currency, consisting of 7,131 notes of 25,000 Iraqi dinars each, which he had printed in Turkey and smuggled into Iraq.

These sentences are based on the provisions of Article 52/1/B of the Iraqi Central Bank Law No. 56 of 2004.
