Five public sector employees arrested in Nineveh on corruption charges

NINEVEH — Iraq’s Federal Commission of Integrity said on Monday it had arrested five public sector employees in Nineveh on charges including embezzlement, bribery, and abuse of public office, during two separate operations carried out by its investigative teams.

The commission said a task team from its Nineveh investigation directorate, acting under a judicial order, raided Al-Khansa Teaching Hospital and arrested four employees. They were accused of manipulating birth certificates issued over the last four months of 2024, failing to record the corresponding state revenues.

In a separate operation, another team detained an employee from Nineveh’s education department after she allegedly received money in exchange for promises of employment at the Ministry of Oil.

The commission said her phones were also seized, containing conversations and money transfer records linked to the case.

The commission said two official reports were filed in both cases, and the five suspects were referred to the Nineveh Court of Investigation on integrity cases, which ordered their detention.
