Samawah opens first electronic passport office

SAMAWAH, October 30 — The city of Samawah saw the opening of its first electronic passport office on Monday, overseen by the Directorate of Civil Status and Passports in Muthanna.

Fadel Al-Zaidi, the Director of Civil Status and Passports, told 964, “Today, we started the electronic passport project and opened a dedicated office within the directorate. The issuance of electronic passports takes no more than one hour. The passport contains a SIM card chip that stores the citizen’s data and is continuously updated. The electronic passport is official and authorized by the aviation authority.”
