Death of 19-year-old mother after C-section prompts investigation
NAJAF — A 19-year-old woman died hours after delivering her first child via cesarean section at Al-Zahraa Teaching Hospital in Najaf, prompting an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, health authorities said Wednesday.
A source familiar with the case told 964media that the delivery was completed successfully and the woman’s condition was stable immediately afterward. “But shortly after, she was administered an injection, and her condition suddenly deteriorated,” the source said, adding that she died within minutes.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, and authorities have not confirmed whether a medical error occurred. The family is awaiting the official medical report and claim she died after receiving an injection following the operation.
Maheer Al-Aboudi, media director of the Najaf Health Department, told 964media that a committee of medical specialists has been formed to examine the case. “We will not release any information until the investigation is complete,” he said.
