Man drowns after falling from Dalal Bridge in Zakho

ZAKHO — A man in his 40s died after falling from the historic Dalal Bridge into the Khabour River late Saturday night, according to local civil defense officials in Duhok’s Zakho district.

Jamal Hasan, head of Zakho Civil Defense, told 964media that eyewitnesses reported the man plunged directly into the river without hitting the bridge or any nearby obstacles. “Based on the statements of several eyewitnesses, we were informed that the man fell from the Dalal Bridge without hitting any obstacles or making contact with the structure — he went straight into the water and drowned,” Hasan said.

Rescue teams responded quickly to the scene. “Our team arrived at the location and recovered the man’s body,” he said.

Authorities have yet to determine the identity of the deceased. “So far, we don’t know who he is or where he’s from,” Hasan added. “He was alone and had no identification on him.”

The body was transferred to the Zakho forensic medical center for further examination.
