Al-Sudani, Saudi crown prince call for restraint amid regional tensions
BAGHDAD — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani spoke by phone Tuesday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional developments and ways to prevent further escalation, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
The call focused on bilateral relations and recent tensions following Israeli airstrikes on Iran and the continuing war in Gaza. Both leaders “emphasized the need to prevent the escalation of conflicts and military actions,” the statement said, referring to what it described as “Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “the ongoing genocide targeting unarmed civilians in Gaza.”
They also called for restraint, the prioritization of dialogue, and an end to “the continued disregard for international laws and resolutions,” the statement added.
