Al-Sudani, Rashid urge de-escalation, back UN action over airspace violations
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Wednesday with President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid to discuss Iraq’s internal affairs and regional security, condemning what they described as “continued blatant Zionist aggression” against Iran.
According to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office, both leaders called for international efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further expansion of the conflict. They also reiterated Iraq’s rejection of what they described as violations of the country’s sovereignty and airspace, pledging to pursue legal avenues through international bodies.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Friday said it had filed a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council, calling on the Council “to take legal and moral action” against what it described as Israeli incursions into Iraqi airspace. “These practices represent a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” the ministry said.
Separately, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, during which he called for “an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers” to discuss the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
