Nasiriyah introduces first electronic passport office

NASIRIYAH, October 24 — Nasiriyah saw the opening of its first office for issuing electronic passports on Tuesday, under the Directorate of Passports in Dhi Qar governorate.

Officials within the directorate said new passports would now take no more than half an hour to issue.

Colonel Hassan Hussein, the Director of the Dhi Qar Passport Department, told 964, “The electronic passport office in Nasiriyah is the first of its kind in the governorate and will provide the best services to citizens.”

Passport appointments are made through the directorate’s website, which specifies the date and time applicants should appear. Citizens are only required to provide two documents: their national ID card and residency card.

Col. Hussein added that the application process takes just minutes to complete, after which a new passport will be issued within 30 minutes.
