Iraq’s meteorological authority service warns of rising temperatures, dusty conditions this week

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s meteorological authority on Monday released its weather forecast for the coming days, warning of increasing temperatures and dusty conditions across much of the country.

According to the statement, Tuesday’s weather will be clear with northwesterly winds ranging from light to moderate, occasionally active in some areas and likely to stir light dust. “Temperatures will decrease slightly compared to the previous day, with visibility between 6 to 8 kilometers, and dropping to 3 to 5 kilometers in dusty conditions,” the statement said.

Forecasted high temperatures for Tuesday are: Baghdad and Diyala 42°C, Erbil 37°C, Nineveh 38°C, Karbala, Babil, and Wasit 43°C, Najaf and Diwaniya 44°C, and Basra 47°C.

Wednesday is expected to bring similar weather, with no major changes. “The weather will be clear, and temperatures will be close to those of the previous day,” the statement said.

Conditions on Thursday will remain sunny, but with increasing wind activity in the eastern parts of central and southern governorates. “Winds will exceed 30 km/h in some areas, causing dust,” the authority said, adding that temperatures will rise in central and northern parts of the country while staying steady in the south.

Friday’s forecast shows continued clear skies, with stronger northwesterly winds that could exceed 30 km/h, generating widespread dust. “Temperatures will increase across the country,” the statement said. Visibility will remain between 6 to 8 kilometers, and 3 to 5 kilometers during dust events.
