Iraq’s Coordination Framework urges protests in support of Iran after Israeli strikes
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Coordination Framework, a coalition of Shia parties that leads the country’s governing alliance, on Sunday night called for public demonstrations to condemn recent Israeli attacks on Iran and express solidarity with the Islamic Republic.
In a statement issued following a regular meeting at the office of former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi — attended by current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and other senior leaders — the group denounced what it described as “the continued aggressive behavior of this entity,” referring to Israel.
The strikes, the statement said, “led to the martyrdom of a number of leaders and scholars, dozens of other martyrs, and hundreds of civilian casualties.”
The Coordination Framework urged Iraqis from all backgrounds to participate in public demonstrations.
“The Coordination Framework calls on the proud people of our nation — across all social, political, and cultural sectors — to take to the streets in demonstrations denouncing the aggression and expressing support for the resilience and steadfastness of the Islamic Republic in confronting it,” the statement said.
Statement from the Coordination Framework:
The Coordination Framework held its regular meeting at the office of Dr. Haider al-Abadi, attended by Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani and the leaders of the Framework.
The attendees discussed developments in the region, and the leaders of the Framework expressed their condemnation and denunciation of the continued aggressive behavior of this entity and the attacks on the Islamic Republic, which have led to the martyrdom of a number of leaders and scholars, dozens of other martyrs, and hundreds of civilian casualties. These attacks have also targeted infrastructure, economic, and strategic sites, signaling a possible escalation and continuation of the war.
The attendees called on the international community in general, and the countries of the region in particular, to stand against the arrogance of this entity and to compel it to cease its aggression against the Islamic Republic. The Framework also called on the proud people of our nation — across all social, political, and cultural sectors — to take to the streets in demonstrations denouncing the aggression and expressing support for the resilience and steadfastness of the Islamic Republic in confronting it.
The attendees also reaffirmed their firm rejection of the violation of Iraqi airspace and its use for attacks against neighboring countries, stressing the necessity for Iraq to continue playing its role as part of the solution and to prevent the continuation of the crisis sparked by the ongoing aggressions of the Zionist entity.
