Iraqi parliament to hold emergency session Tuesday on Israeli strikes
BAGHDAD – The Iraqi parliament has scheduled an emergency session for Tuesday to discuss the “Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the violation of Iraqi sovereignty,” according to a statement issued by the legislature.
The session is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will open with a recitation from the Quran before proceeding to discussions on the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
Earlier today, Iraq’s First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi called for an urgent parliamentary session to address what he described as a dangerous military escalation and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty following Israeli strikes on Iran.
Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Friday submitted a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council, denouncing what it described as Israeli violations of Iraqi airspace and calling on the Council “to take legal and moral action” to prevent further incidents. “These practices represent a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” the ministry said.
