Kirkuk fire under control after hours-long effort by civil defense

KIRKUK — A large fire broke out Sunday in the forests of Altun Kupri, north of Kirkuk, due to the ignition of dry trees. Strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the flames, according to a security source who spoke to 964media.

“Winds expanded the fire over a wide area,” the source said, adding that Civil Defense teams rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire after several hours of effort.

No human casualties were reported.

Another fire also broke out today in an animal pen on the outskirts of Al-Chibayish district in southern Dhi Qar, killing around 30 sheep and cattle.
