Fakhri Karim Named ‘Person of the Year’ at Arab Media Summit

DUBAI, UAE, May 28 — Fakhri Karim, Iraqi writer, publisher, and head of the Mada Foundation for Media, Culture, and Arts, was named “Person of the Year” at the 24th Arab Media Summit, organized by the Dubai Press Club.

The award recognizes Karim’s decades-long career and contributions to Arab media. Organizers noted his involvement in launching publishing houses and cultural magazines, as well as organizing events in various Arab capitals over a span of 60 years.

Karim founded Al-Mada newspaper in Baghdad in 2003. According to the summit announcement, the publication has supported civil society movements and served as a training platform for many emerging Iraqi journalists.

The summit, held annually in Dubai for 24 years, brings together political figures, decision-makers, and media leaders from across the Arab world and beyond.

The 2025 Arab Media Summit, running from May 26 to 28, includes more than 175 sessions and over 35 workshops led by international media organizations and digital platforms. More than 300 speakers are participating in discussions on developments across the media industry.
