Iraq Urges Maximum Pressure to Deliver Aid to Gaza

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi government called on Arab and Islamic countries, along with the international community, to exert maximum pressure to ensure the immediate delivery of humanitarian and food aid to Gaza, where Palestinians remain under blockade.

“The Iraqi government expresses its condemnation and rejection of the painful starvation policy being imposed on the Palestinian people in Gaza,” government spokesperson Bassem Al-Awadi said in a statement issued on May 27.

The United Nations has issued strong criticism of Israel’s ongoing blockade of Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian aid to the region. UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher stated that “aid must never be a bargaining chip,” highlighting that the deliberate obstruction of aid deliveries is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Full statement by Al-Awadi:

The Iraqi government expresses its condemnation and rejection of the painful starvation policy being imposed on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

It has become clear, without any doubt, that the Zionist entity has violated all humanitarian and legal norms, using the blockade and the prevention of humanitarian and food aid as additional tools to intensify the killing of Palestinians.

We therefore call on all Arab and Islamic countries, as well as the international community and global organizations and institutions, to fulfill their responsibilities and exert maximum pressure to ensure the delivery of relief and food supplies, in light of the entity’s continued insistence on total war and the creation of famine among the besieged population of Gaza.
