Fire breaks out at wheat field east of Tikrit

SALAH AL-DIN — A large fire broke out in a wheat field in the Jalam Albu Ajil area east of Tikrit, Salah Al-Din Governorate, on Saturday, according to a local security source. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

A Civil Defense official in the Al-Alam district told 964media that the fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. in one of the wheat fields in the village of Albu Ajil. Fire trucks responded immediately and began extinguishing the flames.

“Initial investigations indicate the fire resulted from an electrical short circuit, and so far about 1.5 dunams (0.4 acres) have been destroyed,” the official said.

Civil defense teams have managed to control most of the blaze and are continuing efforts to fully extinguish the remaining fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring fields.
