High-speed crash kills family of four on Haditha–Baiji Highway
ANBAR — A speeding vehicle overturned on the Haditha–Baiji highway Friday, killing a family of four and leaving the local community in shock, according to traffic authorities in Anbar governorate.
The Anbar Traffic Directorate confirmed the accident in a statement, saying, “Traffic patrols documented a tragic traffic accident on the external (Haditha–Baiji) road, resulting in the deaths of four individuals who were traveling in a Hilux double-cabin vehicle.”
Investigators said the driver was traveling at high speed when the vehicle veered off the road and flipped several times. “The vehicle overturned multiple times and came to a stop 165 steps from the point where control was lost,” the statement said, highlighting the distance as evidence of the vehicle’s speed.
Police and civil defense teams arrived at the scene but confirmed that all four passengers had died on impact. The vehicle was completely wrecked.
The traffic directorate urged drivers to slow down and exercise caution. “Excessive speed causes you to lose control of the vehicle in an instant. No excuse is worth a human life,” the statement warned.
