Two fires erupt in Wasit government buildings, no casualties reported

WASIT— Two separate fires broke out Thursday in the city of Kut, causing property damage but no reported injuries, according to the Civil Defense Directorate.

The first fire occurred early in the morning, damaging caravans belonging to the Water Resources Directorate. Fire crews responded quickly and brought the blaze under control.

Later in the day, a second fire broke out behind the Real Estate Bank when a parked vehicle caught fire and ignited a nearby electrical transformer. Flames spread to parts of the bank building.

A Civil Defense source told 964media that firefighters were able to prevent the flames from reaching interior rooms. Two fire units were deployed to contain the situation.

Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage, which is believed to be minor. Forensic teams are investigating the causes of both fires.

The Kut fires follow similar incidents across the country. Civil defense teams extinguished a fire Wednesday in Najaf’s industrial neighborhood, with no reported injuries

Earlier on Tuesday, Civil Defense Directorate teams extinguished a large fire at a warehouse storing electrical appliances in Awerij, southwest of Baghdad.
