Civil defense extinguishes large fire at electrical storage facility in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — Civil Defense Directorate teams extinguished a large fire on Tuesday at a warehouse storing electrical appliances in Awerij, southwest of Baghdad, according to a statement from the directorate.

The Civil Defense Directorate said its teams imposed “full control” over the blaze under the supervision of Director General Mohsen Kazem. The fire broke out inside a warehouse, prompting an emergency response.

Firefighting crews isolated the burning stock, stormed the core of the fire, and completed cooling operations. The response prevented casualties and helped minimize material damage, according to the statement.

The directorate has requested that the police station responsible for the area open an investigation and summoned a forensic expert to determine the fire’s cause. The Civil Defense also called for accountability for those who failed to comply with safety regulations, despite prior warnings.
