Body of child recovered two days after drowning in Adhaim River
SALAH AL-DIN — Civil defense and rescue teams in Salah al-Din governorate recovered the body of a 10-year-old boy on Saturday, nearly 48 hours after he drowned while swimming in the Adhaim River.
Hamza Obeidi, spokesperson for the Balad district administration, told 964media that the boy’s body was found about one kilometer from where he went missing.
“The child drowned in the Adhaim River and was recovered after two days of continuous search efforts by civil defense, rescue teams, and local residents,” he said.
The boy was identified as Mohammed Nazem, a fourth-grade student from the governorate. Obeidi said Nazem frequently visited the river with friends. “On Thursday evening, while swimming, he sank into a deep part of the river and could not save himself,” he said.
Authorities confirmed that the body was handed over to his family following its recovery.
