Man dies in high-speed crash after taking neighbor’s car without permission

DUHOK — A 40-year-old man died Monday in a high-speed crash in Duhok’s Semel district after taking a neighbor’s vehicle without permission and losing control, local health officials said.

Haysem Barbihari, spokesperson for Duhok’s 122 emergency health center, told 964media that the incident occurred in the Tanahi subdistrict.

“Today in a neighborhood in Semel’s Tanahi subdistrict, a 40-year-old man took his neighbor’s vehicle without informing its owner and, due to excessive speed, crashed into a wall, dying instantly at the scene,” Barbihari said.

The body was transferred to the Duhok Forensic Medicine Department and will be handed over to the family, he added.

Barbihari noted that this was the second traffic-related death reported in Duhok Governorate on the same day.
