Al-Sudani chairs meeting in Dhi Qar to review infrastructure and service delivery

DHI QAR — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting Monday at the Ur Tourist City complex with the heads of service departments, the Service and Engineering Effort Team, and the provincial governor to review infrastructure projects in Dhi Qar and discuss solutions to ongoing challenges.

Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of advancing development efforts in the province, particularly highlighting the Medical City project in Nasiriyah, which he described as “the first of its kind in Iraq.”

He also stressed the need for improved service delivery and greater support for the private sector as a means of generating employment opportunities.

Statement from Al-Sudani’s media office:

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired a meeting today, held at the Ur Tourist City complex. The meeting brought together heads of service departments and the Service and Engineering Effort Team in the province, in the presence of the Governor of Dhi Qar.

During the meeting, participants reviewed plans and progress on infrastructure and service projects currently underway in the province, along with the major challenges they face and the proposed solutions to overcome them.

Key highlights from Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s remarks during the meeting:

🔷 The Medical City in Nasiriyah is the first of its kind in Iraq in terms of capacity and the diversity of hospitals and specialized centers; it requires the provision of essential services.

🔷 It is necessary to form a team from the province’s service departments to remove conflicts and obstacles along the paths of the strategic projects launched today.

🔷 The government’s obligations have significantly increased, particularly in infrastructure projects, which are essential investments with direct benefits to citizens.

🔷 Under this government, the budget deficit is a real result of project implementation, with efficient spending and performance—unlike in the past, when deficits were only on paper.

🔷 The government prioritized spending based on the “most urgent first” principle, achieving positive results in many sectors.

🔷 Complementing service provision is the creation of job opportunities. A strong private sector is the alternative, and service departments must adopt flexible and expedited procedures when dealing with private companies.

🔷 There are 34 laws and decisions previously issued by the Council of Ministers that created disparities in salary allocations. Amending them is the only way to unify the salary scale.

🔷 In the 2024 budget, 156 trillion dinars were disbursed out of the 213 trillion planned: 90 trillion for salaries, 40 trillion for operational expenses, and 13 trillion for ministerial and provincial projects.

🔷 Significant foreign investments have been attracted, as a result of financial and banking reforms and an improved investment environment.

🔷 Cleanliness in the province is essential—it sends a message that service departments are fulfilling their responsibilities properly.

🔷 There are five hospitals in the province that have surpassed the 90% completion mark.
