Two killed in separate car accidents in Kirkuk and Dhi Qar

KIRKUK/DHI QAR — Two people were killed and 12 others injured in separate traffic accidents Friday in Kirkuk and Dhi Qar governorates, according to local and security sources.

In Kirkuk, a Toyota Camry overturned on the road linking Tuz Khurmatu and Daquq, near the Iftikhar junction, killing two people and injuring three others. All victims were members of the same extended family — brothers and cousins from Mansour village in the Iftikhariyat area of Daquq district.

“I was on the road when the accident happened. I saw the vehicle flip over suddenly,” an eyewitness told 964media. “It looked like a tire failure caused the driver to lose control.”

“Ambulances and civil defense teams arrived quickly, but two of them died at the scene, and the injured were taken to the hospital,” the witness said. “The people in the car were from one family. Everyone here knows them. The whole village is in mourning.”

In Dhi Qar, two separate accidents occurred on the southern section of the international highway, leaving nine people injured.

The first crash took place near the Saba oil field, where two cars collided, injuring five people who were transported to Souq al-Shuyoukh General Hospital.

In the second incident, a SUV overturned after wooden planks fell off a truck in front of it, also near the Saba area. Four sisters were injured and taken to the same hospital, a security source said.
