Rain, cooler temperatures expected across Iraq during Eid Al-Fitr

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority said Monday that Eid Al-Fitr will bring partly cloudy to overcast skies, with chances of intermittent rain and thunderstorms across several parts of the country.

The Kurdistan Region marked the first day of Eid on Sunday, while Monday marks the beginning of the holiday for both Sunni and Shia communities in Iraq’s central and southern governorates.

The forecast indicated the possibility of locally heavy rainfall in Duhok, Sulaymaniyah and Diyala. Western regions are expected to see clearer skies with some cloud cover, while rain is likely to subside by the afternoon across most areas, except for the northeast, where unstable conditions may persist into the night.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly nationwide but remain similar to Sunday’s levels in southern Iraq.

Winds will gradually shift from southeast to northwest during the day at speeds between 10 and 25 kilometers per hour, possibly causing occasional dust storms. However, Basra and eastern governorates will continue to see calm to southeasterly winds.
