Iraq offers condolences to Myanmar after deadly earthquake

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday expressed condolences and solidarity with the government and people of Myanmar following a powerful earthquake that struck the country earlier this week.

In an official statement, the ministry extended sympathy to those affected. “The Republic of Iraq extends its heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims and the injured,” the statement read.

The ministry also praised emergency personnel for their “tremendous efforts undertaken by rescue teams, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers in providing support and relief to those affected,” it said.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, causing widespread destruction and triggering aftershocks felt in parts of Thailand and Vietnam. As of March 30, at least 1,644 people were confirmed dead, with more than 3,400 injured and many others still missing.
