Calls on EU to end Gaza blockade

Maliki warns of anger in the Middle East over Palestine

BAGHDAD, October 16 — The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, warned on Monday of the anger of Arab and Islamic peoples if violations and provocations against the Palestinian people continue. He made these remarks during a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Siller.

A statement from Al-Maliki’s media office, received by Network 964, states:

“Today, the leader of the State of Law Coalition, Mr. Nouri al-Maliki, received the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Thomas Siller, at his office.

At the outset of the meeting, discussions centered on the future of Iraq’s relations with European Union countries and the need to enhance cooperation in various fields. They also discussed the ongoing events in occupied Palestine and the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip by Zionist occupation forces.

Mr. Al-Maliki emphasized the importance of the European Union countries taking a stance and playing a role in de-escalating the situation within Palestinian territories and condemning the massacres committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. He warned Israel and its supporters of the anger of Arab and Islamic peoples if violations, provocations, and escalations against the Palestinian people continue. He called for the necessity of delivering food and relief aid to the Gaza Strip and ending the blockade imposed by Israel on the Palestinian people.

Mr. Nouri al-Maliki expressed Iraq’s rejection of calls for the forced displacement of the residents of the Gaza Strip, as urged by Israeli occupation forces.

On his part, Ambassador Thomas Siller expressed the European Union’s desire to expand prospects of cooperation with Iraq and expressed hope for de-escalating conflicts and enhancing stability throughout the Middle East.”
