Authorities seize over 300 kg of expired yogurt in Sulaymaniyah
SULAYMANIYAH — Authorities in Sulaymaniyah have confiscated more than 300 kilograms of expired yogurt intended for sale during Ramadan, according to a statement from the Sulaymaniyah district administration.
The district’s inspection teams seized 18 large containers of spoiled yogurt, totaling 324 kilograms. The owner had planned to sell the yogurt to consumers in local markets during the holy month.
Officials stated that the yogurt had been brought from outside the city and had expired in February 2025. By order of the Sulaymaniyah district commissioner, the entire batch was destroyed, and the owner is facing legal action.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting from dawn to sunset, during which participants refrain from eating, drinking, and smoking.
Since the start of Ramadan, local authorities have repeatedly confiscated expired meat and food products, with violators referred for legal proceedings.
Earlier this month, authorities in Sulaymaniyah confiscated 60 tons of expired frozen meat that was deemed unfit for consumption, with the owner allegedly planning to sell it during Ramadan.
