Baiji crash kills local civil defense director in head-on collision

BAIJI — A head-on collision on a road in Baiji district on Wednesday killed the director of Shirqat’s civil defense and his driver, and left three passengers in serious condition, authorities said.

“Two people lost their lives, and three others were seriously injured. Those who died were the director of Shirqat’s civil defense, Muaz Youssef, 52, and his driver,” Abbas said. He noted that Shirqat is a town in Salah Al-Din.

Abbas explained that Youssef and his driver were returning from Tikrit to Shirqat when both vehicles lost control at high speed, resulting in the fatal head-on collision.

The three injured passengers were taken to Tikrit General Hospital, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
