Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein
Discussing 'project to displace Palestinians from Gaza'
Iraqi foreign minister arrives in Cairo for Arab League meetings ahead of emergency Gaza summit
NEWSROOM — Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein arrived in Egyptian capital Cairo on Sunday to attend the Arab League Council ministerial meetings ahead of an emergency Arab summit on Gaza scheduled for Tuesday, March 4. Iraq’s president will chair the Iraqi delegation during the summit.
“The emergency summit will discuss the Palestinian situation in general, with a particular focus on the project to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the serious repercussions this project may have on the overall Palestinian cause. This summit comes as part of Arab efforts to confront current challenges and support Palestinian rights,” a statement from Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
In early February 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, even suggesting that the U.S. could “take over” and redevelop the Gaza Strip. This proposal was met with widespread condemnation.
Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply denounced any proposals or attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from Gaza. “These calls represent a flagrant violation of international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their land and nation,” the ministry said in a statement.
