'Unfit for consumption'

Ranya authorities destroy 50 boxes of dates

RANYA — Authorities in Ranya, part of Sulaymaniyah’s Raparin Administration, confiscated and destroyed 50 boxes of dates deemed unfit for consumption, the district administration announced.

The joint operation was conducted by a committee from the Ranya district administration in coordination with the Raparin Security Directorate. Officials explained that the dates were being sold despite failing to meet safety standards, a concern that has grown as market demand increases ahead of Ramadan.

Dates play a central role during Ramadan for both religious and practical reasons. Islamic tradition holds that Prophet Muhammad broke his fast with dates, and the fruit is mentioned in the Quran as beneficial. Many Muslims continue this practice, believing dates to be blessed.
