Hit art exhibition spotlights heritage, migration and creativity
ANBAR — The Hit Cultural House hosted an art exhibition in collaboration with the city’s Public Library on Monday, featuring the work of 20 painters and visual artists. Over 100 pieces were on display, spotlighting Hit’s historical landmarks, archaeological sites, tourist attractions and Arabic calligraphy.
The exhibition aimed to highlight the creative energy of Hit’s youth while exploring how migration has influenced local art, with several artists drawing inspiration from international hubs such as Paris and New York. It also showcased work in diverse creative fields, including fashion design.
Visual artist Khatam Muwafaq Mohammed incorporated the city’s heritage into her work. “I presented an artwork that captures the historical landmarks of the ancient citadel, using recycled materials like cardboard, wood, fabric, cotton, paper, and trees,” she told 964media. “I also painted another piece that portrays the traditional waterwheels of Hit with oil colors.”
In addition to her paintings, Mohammed produces handmade accessories and creates glass art using acrylic, watercolor and oil paints. She praised the growing influence of women in the local art scene. “Women have a strong presence in the art scene here. We have many talented female painters whose works are of high quality,” she added.
Fashion designer and painter Hiba Afif Abdul Hamid also contributed to the exhibition by merging her passion for fashion with visual art. “Fashion design is a talent gifted by God, and I’ve worked to develop it through YouTube tutorials,” she said. “I follow designers from France, Spain, and the United States.”
Abdul Hamid, who has participated in competitions and exhibitions in Turkey, aspires to advance further in the fashion industry. “My message to young girls is to never give up on their dreams, no matter what happens,” she said. “I am a physical education student, which is unrelated to design, but I never abandoned it because it’s my passion and my true source of comfort.”
