Kelek family feud reignited as three arrested following gunfire

DUHOK — Three individuals were taken into custody after a violent clash erupted between two families in the Kelek subdistrict of Bardarash, police sources confirmed.

Imad Hussein Zebari, a spokesperson for the Akre police, told 964media, “Nearly two months ago, a fight broke out between two young men in Kelek, sparking tensions between their families. At that time, the issue was resolved through reconciliation and dialogue.” He added, “On Saturday, the same families clashed again, with gunfire exchanged, though thankfully no one was injured.”

Local authorities promptly launched an investigation, collaborating with Bardarash security forces, the civil activity police unit, and the emergency response division. “We were able to arrest three suspects involved in the incident,” Zebari confirmed.

The suspects have been identified as L.K.A., 32; R.S.N., 34; and S.F.Y., 26—all residents of Kelek. They are being held under Article 15 of Law No. 2 of 2022 on firearms. Under this law, anyone caught carrying an unregistered weapon after the designated deadline faces a prison sentence of one to three years and a fine ranging from two to five million Iraqi dinars ($1,333 to $3,333).

The investigation remains ongoing.
