Local Erbil book fair kicks off with major discounts and diverse selection

ERBIL — A new book exhibition opened Wednesday in Erbil, offering 11 days of discounts ranging from 20% to 30% on all books, according to organizer Ashti Sherko. The event, held at the Media Hall in Erbil, showcases more than 4,000 books provided by 17 publishing houses and bookstores, with publishers from both Erbil and Sulaymaniyah taking part.

Organized under Sherko’s supervision for the past two years, the exhibition features an extensive range of titles. In addition to Kurdish-language books, a selection of English titles is on display. Sherko noted a particular focus on children’s literature and educational materials this year, alongside books on self-help, religion, science, philosophy, history, and biographies.

“The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Feb. 22, with discounts available on all books,” Sherko said.

On its opening day, visitors and book enthusiasts gathered to explore the collection, signaling strong local interest in the region’s literary culture.

The biggest event in Erbil’s literary calendar, the annual Erbil International Book Fair, will also be held soon, with April 9 pencilled. Last year’s fair, held at Sami Abdulrahman Park, welcomed over 300 publishing houses from Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and beyond.
