'Inspiration for other parents'

Basra two-year-old girl’s paintings draw eyes at local exhibition

BASRA — A two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Basra is making headlines for her artistic talent after her family showcased 15 of her paintings at an event held in the city’s Pharmacists’ Syndicate Hall.

Dima began drawing with pencils at the age of one and a half and has since advanced to using a brush to blend acrylic and oil paints—a skill that impressed many at the event, her father, Zain Al-Sahib, told 964media.

“I have nurtured her talent by guiding her on holding a brush and pencil. She has a passion for color blending and understands color gradients,” he said, adding that she produces four paintings a week and has little interest in mobile phones or games.

Writer Khaloud Al-Shawi, who specializes in children’s literature, praised the exhibition, saying, “Basra is not far from such creativity; it is a birthplace of talent and innovation.” He continued, “A parent highlighting their child’s talent serves as motivation for other parents. We thank the father for his dedication and for organizing this exhibition for her.”

Dima’s uncle, Khaled Hani, noted that her work resembles that of an adult. “We support these young talents in all fields, and Dima’s artwork bring us constant joy,” he said.
