Two arrested for illegal hunting in Sulaymaniyah’s Bazian district
SULAYMANIYAH — Environmental police in Sulaymaniyah have arrested two individuals on Saturday for illegal hunting in the Bazian district, authorities said.
In a statement, the police said the suspects were apprehended along with two hunting rifles and four rounds of ammunition.
The individuals have been referred to the judiciary for legal action, and investigations are ongoing.
The 2008 environmental protection and improvement laws in the Kurdistan Region strictly ban the hunting, killing, capturing, possession, or trading of endangered species. Offenders face penalties including up to one month in prison and fines between 150,000 and 200 million dinars. Repeat violations result in harsher punishments, with penalties doubling for subsequent offenses.
