Iraq’s Al-Sudani, Iran’s Pezeshkian discuss bilateral ties and regional security in Tehran
NEWSROOM — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday at Tehran’s Saadabad Palace to discuss bilateral relations, regional security, and ongoing cooperation under existing agreements, according to a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office.
Discussions also addressed regional issues, particularly the situation in Syria, with both sides stressing “the necessity of joint efforts to establish security and stability and maintain Syria’s territorial integrity.”
On the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the statement noted that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional cooperation. “Iraq will continue its efforts, in collaboration with Iran and regional partners, to promote calm and stability,” the statement read.
The talks also reviewed steps taken to implement agreements made during Pezeshkian’s visit to Baghdad in September.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Wednesday, with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, at Saadabad Palace in Tehran during his official visit to Iran.
The meeting addressed bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts under previous agreements and understandings to strengthen constructive partnerships that serve the interests of both neighboring countries.
Discussions covered cooperation and coordination on regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria, stressing the necessity of joint efforts to establish security and stability and maintain Syria’s territorial integrity.
Both sides also discussed the ongoing Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, reaffirming Iraq’s ongoing efforts, in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and its Arab and regional partners, to promote calm and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani led the Iraqi delegation in the bilateral talks held in Tehran, while President Masoud Pezeshkian headed the Iranian delegation. The talks explored various areas of cooperation and partnership between the two countries.
The Iraqi delegation included the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ministers of Electricity and Trade, the National Security Advisor, the Prime Minister’s Advisor, and the Director General of Oil Projects at the Ministry of Oil.
The discussions reviewed the steps taken by both sides to activate the memorandums of understanding signed during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Baghdad in September, particularly in key areas such as: Rail connectivity for transporting pilgrims, Security and border control, Energy cooperation, Joint industrial cities.
