Six injured in shooting at Al-Israa University College in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — At least six people have been injured at Al-Israa University College in Baghdad after a student allegedly started shooting at crowds on campus.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Al-Saadi, born in 2005, was apprehended by security forces following the attack.

Iraq’s Ministry of Interior released details on Sunday regarding the shooting. In a statement, the ministry confirmed: “A student from Al-Israa University College in Baghdad was arrested after shooting a college security guard and two students during an altercation.”

The Baghdad Al-Rusafa Police Command, operating under the Ministry of Interior, carried out the arrest shortly after the incident. The Ministry added, “The arrest followed a shooting sparked by a dispute between the suspect and several individuals on campus. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and to ensure appropriate legal action is taken.”

964media has obtained CCTV footage from Al-Israa University College, appearing to show the gunman calmly walking through the campus gate. The video shows him first targeting a security guard before turning his gun on students fleeing across the courtyard.

After firing multiple rounds, the suspect attempts to flee through the campus gate, but security personnel and several students intervene, overpowering him in a brief struggle and successfully apprehending him.

The Ministry said those injured are in a stable condition, and that they had been transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the incident occurred around 12:00 p.m. within the campus of Al-Israa University College, located in District 103 of Baghdad.

Witnesses reported an altercation that escalated into gunfire, leaving five individuals injured initially, with one more reported later.

The suspect, Ibrahim Ali Mohammed Jabr Al-Saadi, a resident of Al-Ubaidi near Al-Ubaidi Park, was identified as having no formal employment.
