'Paintings I present reflect optimism'
Artist Iyad Al-Zubaidi concludes 2024 with ‘Rituals of Love Only’ exhibition in Basra
BASRA — For the third consecutive year, Babil-born visual artist Iyad Al-Zubaidi concluded his annual artistic journey in Basra at the Hamed Saeed Gallery. The exhibition, titled “Rituals of Love Only,” featured 14 artworks completed in 2024.
According to Al-Zubaidi, the pieces reflect the beauty of life in streets and public gardens and convey messages of tolerance and harmony in celebration of the New Year.
Al-Zubaidi’s works are displayed in prominent locations, including the Grand Millennium Hotel in Basra and the Canyon Hotel in Erbil. He encouraged young artists to draw inspiration from Iraqi literary pioneers such as Saadi Youssef and Badr Shakir Al-Sayyab, emphasizing the importance of blending local creative roots with professional and theoretical growth.
“The paintings I present reflect optimism, wishes, and aspirations shared by both the artist and the audience for the start of a new year,” Al-Zubaidi told 964media.
He continued, “I hope our streets and gardens transform into green spaces, and Iraq becomes a green street filled only with love and goodwill.”
Al-Zubaidi highlighted his artistic presence across Iraq, including exhibitions in major hotels and restaurants, such as the Grand Millennium and Sheraton in Basra and Baghdad, as well as the Canyon Hotel in Erbil. His portfolio also extends to international exhibitions.
Hamed Saeed, a fellow artist and gallery owner, described the exhibition as a unique way to celebrate the new year. “We wanted to mark the occasion differently in Basra by hosting this exhibition, which reflects joy and happiness while adding a festive touch to the atmosphere,” Saeed said.
