Nearly half of local gas stations closed

Seven gas stations shut down in Erbil’s Khalifan for ‘failing to meet safety standards’

ERBIL — Local authorities in the Khalifan district in Erbil Governorate have shut down seven gas stations due to non-compliance with safety standards, failure to renew operating licenses, and unpaid property fees.

Khalifan District Governor Magdid Ahmed confirmed the closures in a statement to 964 media, saying, “We shut down seven gas stations because they failed to meet safety requirements, renew their annual operating licenses, or pay property rental fees. Each of these stations was closed due to one or more of these reasons.”

Ahmed explained that the closures followed an inspection by the district’s economic and public services committee. “Any station that fulfills the requirements will be reopened immediately, but those that fail to comply will remain closed permanently,” he added.

Khalifan, located in the Soran autonomous administration in Erbil, has around 15 gas stations, eight of which operate in the district’s urban center. The recent closures affect nearly half of the urban facilities.
