Suspect arrested after young man fatally shot in Koya

ERBIL – A young man was shot and killed Sunday evening on Haibat Sultan Street in Erbil’s Koya district, according to local security officials. Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the incident.

Aram Yasin, spokesperson for Koya’s Security Directorate, told 964media that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. “In the coming hours, we will release more details about the incident and the investigation,” Yasin said.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Haibat Sultan Street. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was transported to the emergency department of Shaheed Dr. Khalid Hospital, according to Nashat Ahmad, spokesperson for the hospital’s emergency unit.

“He had sustained a gunshot wound to the head,” Ahmad said. “Despite significant efforts by the medical team, his injuries were too severe, and he passed away shortly after.”
