Iraqi embassy in Syria offers assistance to Iraqis wishing to leave Syria
NEWSROOM — The Iraqi Embassy in Damascus has issued a call to Iraqi citizens in Syria who wish to return to Iraq, urging them to register with the embassy for assistance.
“The Iraqi Embassy in Damascus calls on Iraqi citizens wishing to return to Iraq to contact the embassy to register their names,” the embassy said in a statement. It provided the following contact numbers for registration: 00963 11 334 1290, 00963 11 334 1299 and 00963 11 334 1298.
In a significant escalation of the Syrian conflict, opposition forces led by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, under the command of Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani, have captured several key cities, including Aleppo, Hama, and Daraa, within a week.
The forces have advanced to the outskirts of Homs, a strategic city linking Damascus to the Mediterranean coast. The rapid territorial gains have caused Syrian government forces to retreat.
The fall of Homs could further isolate Damascus and disrupt access to President Bashar Al-Assad’s strongholds.
These developments have raised concerns among international stakeholders, including Russia and Iran, Assad’s key allies, about the regime’s stability.
In a separate statement, the embassy addressed Iraqis married to Syrian nationals or Iraqi women with children from Syrian husbands. “For Iraqi citizens wishing to obtain entry visas to Iraq for their Syrian wives or their children under the age of 15, children will be granted visas after presenting proof of guardianship and a certified marriage contract,” the statement read.
The embassy encouraged citizens to visit during official working hours to complete the necessary procedures.
