Maysan forecast at 50°C as the Kurdistan Region begins to cool

BAGHDAD — Maysan is forecast to reach 50°C on Saturday, the highest in Iraq, while Erbil and Sulaymaniyah drop to 41°C — eight degrees below where Erbil sat on Wednesday — the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Basra, Muthanna and Dhi Qar are expected to reach 49°C, Diwaniyah and Najaf 48°C, Baghdad, Babil, Wasit and Karbala 47°C, Diyala and Salah al-Din 46°C, and Nineveh, Anbar and Kirkuk 45°C. In the Kurdistan Region, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah are forecast at 41°C and Duhok at 40°C with partly cloudy skies.

Skies will be clear across most of the country, with scattered cloud over the Kurdistan Region’s mountains, and temperatures close to Friday’s. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 10 to 20 km/h, rising to about 35 km/h in eastern parts of central and southern Iraq in the afternoon, which could raise light dust in desert areas and along highways. Visibility should be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km where dust is blowing.
