Suspect in custody after man Killed in Zakho market stabbing

DUHOK – A 37-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Zakho’s main market on Tuesday afternoon, according to local authorities.

Major Ahmed Ramazan, a spokesperson for the Zakho police, confirmed to 964 media that the suspect, a 20-year-old man, has been taken into custody. “The suspect has been arrested under the order of the judiciary, and investigations into the incident are ongoing,” Ramazan said.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim, who worked as an employee at a café in the market, had a prior dispute with the suspect. The victim’s body was transferred to the Zakho Forensic Medical Center for examination.

Police stated that the case is being investigated under Article 405 of Iraq’s Penal Code, which pertains to homicide.

This is the second fatal stabbing reported in Zakho in the past five days.
