Runaway bus kills driver outside hotel in Duhok

DUHOK — A runaway tourist bus killed its driver who tried to stop the vehicle in the Geli neighborhood in Duhok on Tuesday.

Local authorities reported that the incident occurred when the bus, parked in front of a hotel, began rolling uncontrollably. The driver, who was outside the bus at the time, attempted to halt its movement but was caught underneath and killed. The runaway bus also damaged three private vehicles before coming to a stop.

Emergency teams responded quickly, extracting the driver from under the bus and transporting him to a hospital. However, health officials confirmed that he had died before arrival.

Matin Jamil, a spokesperson for the Duhok General Directorate of Health, told 964media, “The driver succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. The case has been referred to the forensic medicine office for further procedures.”

The victim, a Baghdad resident in his late twenties, has not been publicly identified. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
