Iraq’s speaker of parliament invited to Iran, promises to visit soon
BAGHDAD— Iraq’s Speaker of Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, met with Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al Sadeq on Sunday to discuss regional political issues and bilateral relations. During the meeting, Al-Mashhadani received an invitation from his Iranian counterpart to visit the Islamic Republic, which he welcomed and promised to fulfill soon, according to a statement from his office.
Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani is an Iraqi politician currently serving as the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament since Oct. 31, 2024. He previously held the same position from April 2006, to December 2008.

Speaker of the parliament, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, received the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad, Mohammad Kazem Al Sadeq, on Sunday.
During the meeting, the Iranian Ambassador conveyed the congratulations and regards of the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Mohammad Bagher, to Dr. Al-Mashhadani on assuming the presidency of the parliament, wishing him success in his new role.
The meeting discussed the overall political situation in the region and the humanitarian conditions faced by the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, as well as the acts of genocide they are enduring at the hands of the Zionist entity.
Dr. Al-Mashhadani emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation on shared issues between the two countries and strengthening good neighborly relations in a way that serves the interests of both neighboring nations.
The Speaker also received an invitation from his Iranian counterpart to visit the Islamic Republic. He welcomed the invitation and promised to fulfill it at the earliest opportunity.
Both sides agreed to activate the role of friendship committees between the Iraqi parliament and the Iranian Shura Council.
