'Becoming independent'
Young Mosul entrepreneur finds success in floral business
MOSUL — Haad Mohammed Salm, a young woman from Mosul, is making a name for herself with her flourishing floral business, offering natural and handmade printed flowers. In her twenties, Salm began her journey working in a clothing and household goods store before deciding to launch her own business from scratch.
Today, Salm provides floral arrangements and gift services for weddings and celebrations, catering to both men and women. Her customer base extends beyond Mosul to other provinces in Iraq, and she offers nationwide delivery services.
Salm proudly told 964media, “I have never had an order returned since launching my business two years ago.”
Reflecting on her journey, Salm explained, “My beginnings were very simple, earning a symbolic salary as an employee inside the mall. I thought about becoming independent, and I achieved that. The idea succeeded, and I now have my own project and customers who appreciate my daily efforts and the products I create.”
Her products serve as gifts for various occasions, including weddings, engagements, and official events. Her clientele includes residents from Mosul, its districts, and neighboring provinces.
Salm acknowledges the cultural barriers that women entrepreneurs often face in Iraq, where traditional views can discourage women from entering the workforce or running their own businesses. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to succeed and contribute to the local economy.
“I don’t pay attention to the criticism directed at working women, because we have proven our presence in the market. We will continue to contribute, especially in the economic sector, alongside men,” Salm said.
She considers herself a success story and encourages other women to pursue their ambitions. “I consider myself a success story, and I wish for other women to work and make greater efforts to have their standing in society. I aspire to achieve even more,” she added.
