'Commitment to democracy'
Iraqi PM congratulates Kurdistan Region on ‘successful’ parliamentary elections
BAGHDAD – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani extended his congratulations to the people of the Kurdistan Region, along with its leadership, government, political parties, and independent candidates following the end of voting for the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections.
In a statement, Al-Sudani praised the electoral process, saying, “We congratulate the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the leadership and government of the region, and all political forces and independent candidates on the successful completion of the electoral process to choose the members of the region’s parliament for its sixth term.”
He highlighted the importance of democracy across Iraq, emphasizing the nation’s ongoing “commitment” to democratic values. “The continued commitment to democracy by our people in various parts of Iraq underscores the value of democratic principles, the belief in the peaceful transfer of power, and the strengthening of constitutional governance. These achievements would not have been possible without the sacrifices made by Iraqis for their freedom, dignity, and independent decision-making, to live in a country where everyone is equal in rights without discrimination,” Al-Sudani noted.
The prime minister also commended the Independent High Electoral Commission. He expressed optimism for the next steps in the Kurdistan Region’s governance process. “We hope the remaining steps for forming the new government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will be completed soon, to continue the path of development, cooperation, and stability in service of the people of the region,” he added.
