Fuel tanker explosion in Khabat district leaves two dead, two injured
RBIL — A fuel tanker explosion in the Khabat district of Erbil province on Sunday evening claimed the lives of two people and injured two others, local authorities confirmed.
The explosion occurred while workers were welding the tanker. The victims were identified as workers involved in the welding process at the time of the incident.
Amanj Mohammed, spokesman for Khabat Civil Defense, confirmed to 964media that the explosion took place in an industrial area. “The explosion occurred due to welding on the rear of the tanker,” Mohammed said, adding that two workers died and two others sustained injuries as a result.
This incident adds to a series of fuel tanker-related accidents in the region. In late August, a fire at the Parvez Khan border crossing between the Kurdistan Region and Iran resulted in casualties. Another fuel tanker collision in Darbandikhan, Sulaymaniyah, killed two passengers. In May, a fuel tanker overturned and exploded in the same district, causing significant damage and loss of life.
