Iraq warns that jeopardizing its stability will harm interests
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s government spokesperson, Basem Al-Awadi, stated on Sunday that the government has made efforts to keep Iraq away from conflict zones and has sent “clear messages” to all internal and external parties that threatening Iraq’s stability will damage its interests.
Al-Awadi emphasized that the government is focused on maintaining Iraq’s security amidst escalating tensions in the region, specifically referring to the crises in Gaza and Lebanon.
Al-Awadi’s statements to Iraqi News Agency:
The Iraqi government has made exceptional efforts (locally, regionally, and internationally) to keep Iraq away from the battlefield, prioritizing Iraq’s supreme interests, with the decisions of the Iraqi state being at the forefront, as the state is considered the primary protector and defender of Iraq, and is officially responsible for shaping foreign relations and holds the constitutional right over matters of war and peace.
The government has communicated with all relevant parties, both internally and externally, and sent clear messages that jeopardizing Iraq’s stability will result in negative consequences that harm the country’s supreme interests politically, economically, and socially.
The main course of action in dealing with the crises in Gaza and Lebanon, as outlined by the supreme religious authority, consists of three levels: Political track, relief track and media track.
The government and the active parties have covered these tracks in all their forms with relentless work and efforts, placing Iraq at the forefront in the Islamic and Arab world in supporting Palestine and Lebanon.
The government has taken all available military and security measures to maintain the sovereignty of the country.
The crisis is global, and therefore no country can resolve it without international intervention from major countries or the United Nations Security Council, as the contributions have been modest and ineffective in stopping the course of war or achieving an immediate ceasefire and serious initiatives to establish new rules of engagement.
In times of crises, the role of all political and media elites emerges in standing behind the unified national decision and playing an active and vital role in preserving national interests, avoiding wars, and taking into consideration the country’s political and economic conditions, while supporting the three aforementioned tracks as an agreed-upon roadmap.
